Jerry Falwell, and other right-wing bloviators to
manufacture a “war on Christmas,” with liberals in the role of anti-Christian activists bent on expelling every trace of religion from America’s public arena. After weeks of protests against businesses and individuals that casually wished everyone “Happy Holidays” instead of “Merry Christmas,” this is the image that O’Reilly & Co. saw splashed across the Republican National Committee’s
home page on Christmas Eve morning, 2005:
