Trump Tells Himself, “Get Out”

[[C A M P A I G N S]] * So far, it seems my prognosticating skills are proving better than expected, at least where Donald Trump is concerned. The New York Post reports today that the mega-developer/TV ham has “flatly ruled out running for governor [of New York] this year,” a campaign that would have put him in contention with the heavily favored Democrat, state Attorney General Eliot Spitzer, a man Trump says has “done an amazing job.” Instead, a “political figure close to Trump” tells the Post, “Donald is definitely interested in running for president in 2008, possibly as an independent candidate.” Really? The Donald--who’s said he’s a registered Democrat, although other sources insist that he’s a Republican--previously flirted with the notion of running for the White House in 1999, when he was courted by the Reform Party, but eventually withdrew from the nomination amid intra-party squabbles. He’s since been quoted as saying that he has no further interest in seeking public office. And let’s hope that’s true, because having been introduced, on The Apprentice, to his taste in home decorating (even Louis XIV never envisioned so much gold and so many mirrors around him at one time!), I can only imagine what the Come-over King would do to the Oval Office.
