“In Times Like These, We Sure Could Use a Friend”

I was just listening to Bob Edwards Weekend on my local National Public Radio station, KPLU-FM, and I heard this song performed by renowned singer-songwriter Randy Newman. It’s called “A Few Words in Defense of Our Country,” and it conveys many of the frustrations we all feel about what has befallen the United States over the last seven years. But Newman conveys those frustrations as entertainment, which somehow makes them all more palatable for many people, even though what’s being said is the very same stuff you might read in a politics-oriented blog such as this one. Listen, lament what’s been lost and what could have been, and hope for better from this nation in the future.
