This is sad news, indeed. It seems that The National Enquirer, notorious for its questionable reporting, has actually uncovered a juicy story: that Patrick Swayze, the 55-year-old former star of Dirty Dancing (1987) and Ghost (1990), is dying of pancreatic cancer and has been told that he may have only weeks left to live. His publicist has confirmed that diagnosis.
UPDATE: Well, there’s nothing like rumors of a famous person dying to bring out the denials. By this afternoon, Swayze’s physician, Dr. George Fisher, was countering that publicist’s frightening prognosis with one of his own. He contends that “Patrick has a very limited amount of disease and he appears to be responding well to treatment thus far. All of the reports stating the timeframe of his prognosis and his physical side effects are absolutely untrue. We are considerably more optimistic.” Gee, I’m glad that’s cleared up ...
