“Yes, We Can,” the Revival



As we prepare for the inauguration of Barack Obama as the 44th president of the United States of America, I find myself returning one last time to view this exhibition of popular optimism.

It is absolutely amazing how far “hope” has come in the last year. The near future will be challenging, but the fact that so many Americans seem willing to embrace it can only be seen as heartening. This country has been starved of faith in its own promise over the last eight years, as George W. Bush proved what disasters can happen under an incompetent president. With luck, optimism will reign for at least as long as it takes to put the nation on a smart and sustainable course once more.

Yes, we can.

Yes, we must.
