A Study in Contrasts

“It’s been about four decades since we last saw two successive, failed presidential candidates serve in the [U.S.] Senate at the same time,” writes Steve Benen of Washington Monthly. “We are, however, seeing it right now--John Kerry lost in 2004, John McCain lost in 2008, and both remain in the chamber.” The ways in which those two solons have behaved since their returns to the echoing halls of Congress, though, could hardly be more different.
