Corporate Copycatism

This is definitely one of the downsides of today’s corporate consolidation of what used to be called “alternative newsweeklies.” Of the 13 tabloids now in Village Voice Media’s stable, more than half of them this week are running the very same cover story--Michael E. Miller’s “gonzo guide to the Republican National Convention,” an event set to commence in Tampa, Florida, next week. Whatever happened to the mission of these publications to present thoughtful, investigative, and local coverage of news?
